Hugh Clark, Ph.D.
QUALIFICATIONS
Dr.
Clark conducts primary research in public transportation, health care, consumer
acceptance of technology innovation, utilities, and commercial applications.
-
He
conducts market research studies for planning and marketing of public
transit throughout the United States. Dr. Clark recently completed onboard and community studies in California, Arizona, Florida, and
Massachusetts, for use in preparation of service restructuring and marketing
plans. These studies are only the most recent of his transportation studies
that have continued uninterrupted since 1980.
-
He
has developed a useful system of measuring customer satisfaction with public
transit service. The method
measures multiple factors to develop sensitive indicators of key marketing
factors such as perceptions of safety, overall speed, reliability, and other
service factors.
-
He
also conducts studies in consumer acceptance of technological innovation. He has tested consumer and public agency use of intelligent
transportation systems, tourist information systems, use of data base
technologies in trucking regulation, electronic banking, design of web
sites, and many other applications of technology to transportation and
consumer markets. In this field too, he has pioneered and continues to
innovate. From 1980 to 1984,
many years prior to the advent of the Internet, he was already developing
methods and conceptual frameworks to study in-home computer based
information systems, in-home banking, and other information applications
then provided by experimental coaxial systems.
-
In conducting consumer research, he uses focus
groups, onboard surveys, community telephone surveys,
key informant interviews, and direct observation.
